Acrylic wedding invitations are not user friendly: here’s why?
We all want to buy the best looking, most stylish, creative, and unique wedding cards, our sole purpose is to show our enthusiasm to our guests, that we are ready for the wedding and so our invitees.
You go to the shop or visit a wedding card buying website where every card is created With Love, after hours of choosing between the seemingly unlimited choices, you come across a nice-looking acrylic card, you are amazed by its transparent cover, beautiful design, and font.
But wait before you buy one, have a look at why it’s not user-friendly, and then decide for yourself.
The sad truth about acrylic wedding cards
Not eco-friendly: - We were shocked to hear this one, but it’s the truth, an acrylic card is as harmful to nature as it is amazing in looks. Since it is a type of plastic, it is not recyclable and you already know that plastics take time to biodegrade.
Unless it looks like a showpiece, you are going to throw the wedding card in the dustbin as soon as the big event is over and acrylic cards don’t look like one. Besides you can get paper invitation cards that are recyclable at the same cost.
We are also environmentally conscious and so we also don’t sell acrylic invitations and don’t encourage you to buy one either.
Cost factor: - You might be thinking that acrylic cards are expensive, but it’s the complete opposite, acrylic invitation cards are cheap, so there is no problem with money, but there are other problems that shouldn’t be ignored.
Each type of plastic has a different type of clarity, Plexi acrylic cards have a clear font, but lower-end plastic acrylic invitation cards appear foggy and gimmicky.
You might be thinking that you can make DIY acrylic cards, but there will be various challenges that you will face such as.
1) If you are applying paint or pen, it can be easily wiped off from the plastic.
2) If you are applying stickers you need to be careful not to tear that.
3) If you are using permanent pens, there is still the risk of scratching the ink off.
The only risk-free way to write on plastic is by using special printers. Whatever the reason,its plastic people and the bottom line is, that plastic is harmful to nature.
Issues in mailing: - We are talking about good old-fashioned mailing with the mailbox here. You can distribute the cards by going to the guests’ house who live in your region, but what about guests from abroad, mailing is the only option unless you are sending an e-card.
You need to keep in mind the additional postage cost and will need to spare some more from your wedding budget so that the Cards reach your invitees on time. We are sorry to tell you that high-quality acrylic invitations are expensive and you might be charged higher mailing fees depending on size and weight. Your post office may also discard acrylic card since it is plastic and you then need to send it as parcels which will cost more than the card itself.
You may also need to get thick envelopes since the acrylic invite is solid and have rough corners, if it is not rounded plus the card can tear out of the casing if handled incorrectly. Overall you will pay more just for invitation cards.
The font and fingerprints: - Your guests will have a hard time reading the text because of the transparent cover. Anything written on acrylic can be hard to read without a background.
If you ever touched a sample you ordered, your guests are going to notice the fingerprints on the card, which will spoil the entire mood, even if you were extra careful while handling, your guests will eventually smudge the card with fingerprints.
What’s the solution?
Vellum invitation cards: - If you love the idea of a transparent marriage invitation, but do not want to harm the planet, your solution is vellum. Vellum is a transparent paper made from the same material as used to make normal paper.
Vellums are easily recyclable and some are even approved by FSC, others contain recyclable fiber. It is not as transparent as acrylic but your guests will still be impressed.
